Demonstration at Voices in Cloth 2006
Various demonstrations will be offered during
the two days of the Voices in Cloth quilt.
The demonstrations will include:
Saturday
- 10-11:30 a.m.
- Priscilla Read, “Trapunto by machine” – add depth and
texture to your quilts using a sewing machine version of
this 14th-century Sicilian technique
that creates a three-dimensional effect.
- 11:30-1 p.m.
- Rosemary Corbin, demonstrating hand-quilting and Johnie Mae
Poindexter demonstrating hand-piecing – Quilting the good
“old-fashioned” way.
- 1:00 - 2:30 p.m.
- Bess Chin with assistant Phyllis Mizuhara, demonstrating Sashiko,
the Japanese quilting technique that uses fine running stitches
to define traditional Japanese patterns on fabric.
- 2:30 - 4:00 p.m.
- Freddy Moran, Liberated Stars – learn how to make
stars the creative way; put stars in everyone’s eyes
Sunday
- 10-11:30 a.m.
- Liz Berg, surface design with found objects – using “found”
objects and fabric colorants, learn to create unique patterns on
fabric to incorporate into your quilts.
- 11:30-1 p.m.
- Nava Shaham, learn how to sew your strings (stripes) together to
make each block unique..
- 1:00 - 2:30 p.m.
- Valerie Yeaton – Join Valerie and have fun with fabric paints,
crayons, and pens to create one-of-a-kind quilt squares for
Highland Hospital nursery. A great exercise for kids of all ages.
- 2:30 - 4:00 p.m.
- Bev Schmidt – Learn to create potholders and placemats by
scrap piecing on paper or muslin.
