Enter Your Quilts in the Alameda County Arts Commission Exhibit

Coming soon is the annual ACAC exhibit of EBHQ members' quilts at the Alameda County Administration Building. This show was a huge success last year with the approximately 6,500 County employees and visitors to the building. This year, the exhibit will run from Oct. 29, 2018 - Feb. 21, 2019 at the Alameda County Administration Building, 1221 Oak Street, Floors 1 and 5, Oakland, CA (3 blocks from Lake Merritt BART). The show is located in well-lit, secure areas with high traffic open to the public during normal working hours, Monday-Friday.

For the exhibit, we are looking for 30 - 35 bright, colorful quilts (not previously shown at this venue) in a wide range of styles and dimensions.  Quilts can be up to 60" in height and of any width.  Small and medium quilts, as well as group challenges, are welcome and show very well.  Quilts must be appropriate for audiences of all ages.

  • Deadline to enter: September 24 at the EBHQ Educational Session
  • Each quilt must have an Application and Waiver Form associated with it. Click here for the form.
  • You may submit your quilts at one of the following times: Tues, Sep 11 Drop In; Thurs, Sep 13 Meet-Up; Sat, Sep 15 Drop In; or Mon, Sep 22 the Education Session; or by special arrangements with Kathy Bowden (925-885-9144). (See EBHQ calendar for hours and locations of these sessions.)
Your participation is a wonderful way to promote quilting and EBHQ! If you have any questions, please contact Kathy Bowden on (925) 885-9144 or ebhqexhibits@gmail.com.

Show and Tell 2018, “Around the Block”

The guild’s annual Show and Tell night is coming up, ladies and gents, and it’s time
Jean Smith
to show off those fabulous creations that we’ve all been working on! The date is Monday, Nov. 26. Whether you’re just starting out, or are a seasoned pro, we’d love to see what you’ve created since last year. Each and every work of art is welcome with no judgment; this is an event to celebrate the artistic process we all so enjoy.

This year’s theme is “Around the Block”. Quilting is a process in which we invest pieces of our lives in each work. Whether you stroll around your neighborhood block, or climb a mountain, the journey is key, and so it is for quilting. Let’s celebrate the journey we all love as quilters.

You can show up to two items, so look through your finished quilts, wall hangings and garments and decide which ones you want us to see. If you had a quilt displayed at PIQF this year, we’d love to see it. Not all our members have a chance to see your work at that venue. Our entry form (here) is online this year and even those who are hesitant have told us how easy it is to fill out.

As an added incentive, there might just be some random give-aways at this year’s Show and Tell, so be sure to come for a chance to take home an extra goodie.

You will get a phone call to confirm your entry was received. If you need to use a paper form, pick one up at the meetings or drop-in. Questions? Email Jean Smith at: thesmith@berkeley.edu.

Deadline to submit your entries is Monday, Nov. 19.  We hope to see you there!
