Throughout quilt history, foundation piecing has allowed quilters to work with scrappy materials of different weights, textures, and weaves (think crazy quilts and string quilts). Beginning with a brief history of foundation piecing and an introduction to the technique, participants will have the opportunity to sew their own simple unique blocks from the bits in their scrap bags. Finally, students will have a chance to experiment with their blocks, exploring the geometric potential of symmetry, repetition, and rotation as they create one-of-a-kind compositions and discover complex patterns from their humble leftovers.
